Thanks for the tip about aligning print heads to a glossy medium - after doing the epson prescribed alignment with no difference in my results I was getting desperate. I tried doing it again with your suggestion and the problem seems to have gone away!

I’ve been doing this for 3+ years with no problems (other than the usual darkroom gremlins!). Suddenly I am getting an artifact in the negs which is visible in my prints. These are vertical bands of about 1/4” thickness that run the height of the image, though they are more visible in mid tone areas. Vertical banding is not associated with nozzle clogs and I always do nozzle checks anyway before printing and they are clean. Vertical banding can be connected to head alignment issues, so I did a head alignment and the problem persists.

Nothing in my workflow has changed and I’m getting the problem on digital files I’ve printed successfully before. If I print the positive image with the Epson driver on Epson Premium Lustre, there is no banding, so it’s not in the image and the epson driver has no problem with the image when printing it within the “epson world” of media/software. Which is why epson support will be of no help.
>> So everything is pointing at the printer - but I’m not sure what else I can do with it. I do set the platen gap to narrow for Pictorico - I’ve always had to do this since day 1 or else I get horizontal banding.
