[Alt-photo] Salted Paper Success

Earl,

Glad to hear that you are making wonderful prints. It is interesting that you have chosen Platine for the process. When it works it is one of the best papers as it tends to give warmer images with no stain. Apparently the new production of this paper that Chris tested is working well again.

I have not been able to print anything for months since hurricane Harvey flooded my house.

Marek

Earl,
This made my day.
Thank you.
Book writing is sometimes such a thankless task so when you get thanks it makes it all worth it.
Agar agar (or carrageenan) is the bomb.
Cheap, too:

That amount will size quite a few sheets of paper!
Be sure to buy one of those white foam 4” rollers at the hardware store, too.

The combination of citric acid in the salting solution and a double coat of silver nitrate has made all of my salt printing problems disappear. I soaked a stack of Arches Platine (of unknown age) in sodium chloride and citric acid. Double coating with 15% silver nitrate and gold toning (gold/thiourea toner) are giving me a lovely long, smooth tonal scale, good dmax, and lovely clear highlights. The correction curves for my QTR negatives are mild. I think that this will be my process of choice for the foreseeable future.
