Following morning presentations, participants will have lunch on their own and regroup for a walking audit to assess existing conditions in the afternoon.

This workshop is free and open to the public and intended to be an extension of the OUIQC's ongoing work on Western Avenue. The OUIQC study will seek to enhance the streetscape of the commercial district by recommending ways to improve walkability, mitigate accessibility concerns, and create a sense of place on the corridor.

Community leaders, neighborhood association members, and residents are encouraged to attend and learn to assess placemaking and walkability in their neighborhoods.

Dan Burden, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the WALC Institute, is an internationally recognized expert who has conducted walkability assessments in more than 3,500 communities. The Institute's mission is to inspire, teach, connect and support communities in their efforts to improve health and well-being through better built environments.
