Greetings to Sustainability partners!

Just wanted to drop a quick note updating everyone on a major milestone for the Oklahoma State Facilities Energy Conservation Program (20x2020). The utility database is now live!!!!

This one of the major results of over 20 months of hard work, tens of thousands miles traveled, easily over a hundred of meetings, numerous presentations, seminars and webinars. From Beavers Bend State Park in Southeast corner to Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, from Northeastern A&M State College in Miami to Oklahoma Panhandle State College in Goodwell - over 70 state agencies and state colleges are participating.

Not all the state agencies and colleges have completed their data entry. The data should go back to July 2011! So, you can imagine how challenging for some of these state agencies with hundreds of meters to find their past utility bills and enter all the data - manually!!!!

State already saw a massive benefit from this program. Many buildings are finally accounted for. Meters are identified. Equipment inventory lists are compiled. Because state agencies started actively tracking utility data several hidden water leaks were identified - data showed increased usage. Agencies are actively investigating sudden changes in energy use - whether up or down. I have personally surveyed easily over 60 facilities. And more importantly we've been teaching agencies how to survey their own facilities.

You will be amazed on how much work is actually being done at state agencies concerning energy efficiency! Our program is finally giving a central voice to all those efforts. As a coordinated and channeled effort, we should achieve a rather tough target of cutting statewide energy use by 20%.

As before, I would kindly ask everyone to reach out to their peers, neighbors and friends working at state agencies and express your support. Learn from them as we are dumping massive amounts of knowledge on state agencies. It may not trickle down to each employee. However, if you ask, people may seek out that info currently available through dedicated Energy Managers at each agencies. Together we can make this work! Oklahoma is ahead of many states on energy efficiency because of this program! We still have lots of work! So, buckle up, roll up your sleeves - whatever you do before launching a major effort - and let's build out future!

Thank you,
